Add Engraved name-plate to order

It is best-suited to 2 hand or foot casts of a baby 0-6m or 1 cast of a toddler with photo or wooden initial letter (not supplied).

It can be bought on its own or you can use the drop down to add materials to convert it into a casting kit.

We do not do an under mount in the 10x8" Double size as we feel the resulting aperture for the casts is too small.

Optionally add an Engraved Name-plate to your order to stick to the frame edge or to the back mount with your casts. They come in three different sizes with many colours and fonts to choose from. You just peel the strip off the back and stick it to your frame.

If you need additional casting material please go to our Materials and Refills section.

To help you decide which frame colour and paint combination to choose you can ask yourself a few questions, such as:

  • Where will I hang my frame - do I need to match it to the decor of an existing room?
  • Do I want to include a landscape or portrait photo in the frame?
  • How many 3D hand and foot casts/clay impressions do I want - 1, 2 or 4?
  • What combination of hands and feet do I want?
  • What size frame do I want? Our frames are measured in GLASS SIZE.
  • What colour should the frame rim be?
  • What colour should the casts/impressions be?
  • What colour should the front and back mounts be?
  • Do I want an under mount to create a stepped, two-colour effect for my front mount?
  • Do I want an engraved name-plate with my child's name and age? Which colour? Which font?

The Baby Casting Process

Baby casting creates incredibly detailed 3D plaster casts. We provide detailed instructions with over 100 step-by-step images and plenty of materials for you to achieve a good result. However, baby casting does take practice. We recommend making just one cast from start to finish so you can familiarise yourself with the materials and learn from any mistakes you make.

When to make your casts
Casts can be made from birth upwards. Newborns should be well and not premature. Choose a good time to make your casts, preferably when your baby is due a feed but not a nap or distracted by another familiar person. Distracting them with an app on your phone or by feeding them is often a good trick especially if they are moving their hands and feet a lot. It is not advisable to make a cast when your baby is unwell, tired, unsettled after jabs or needs a nappy change. Some newborns can sleep right through having their moulds taken but in general an older baby will wake. If your baby has dry skin, apply some baby oil. If your baby has eczema or any other skin condition, please seek advice from a medical professional before proceeding. You will need to do a patch test.

Pots to make the moulds in

(we no longer use bags)
You will need to provide the pots to make the moulds in. These can be common household food containers such as plastic milk bottles, soup, yoghurt, grape or spreadable butter pots.

Steps to follow:

1. Make the mould - We use a safe impression material (alginate) widely used for decades by dentists and lifecasters worldwide. It is safe and designed specifically for use on skin. This material must be mixed quickly with COOL (not tepid or warm) water and sets fast, in about 2 minutes, to form a rubbery, flexible mould. The mixture will change colour from pink to pale grey as it sets.

2. Pour the plaster - Mix our specialist stone plaster with water and pour it into the mould.
3. Reveal the casts - Once the plaster has set, after a couple of hours, tear away the mould to reveal the cast.
4. Tidy the casts - Tidy and fill faults in the cast ready for painting. The more time you spend on this step, the better your finished casts will be.
5. Paint the casts - Once the casts are bone dry, after 5-7 days, paint your casts.
6. Frame the casts - if you have purchased a frame with your kit.

Your casts are ready to hang on the wall and admire!

If you cannot be sure you will be in, you could maybe use a neighbour's or work address. Parcel Force will not leave parcels in a 'safe' place but you can easily re-arrange your one hour delivery time slot via text or email.

What happens if I miss the courier delivery?

There must be someone to sign for a courier delivery at the supplied delivery address. If you are out a card will be left but only where the address does not have a shared entrance/ intercom. The card will indicate what to do to have your goods re-delivered. If a card cannot be left at the delivery address, your goods will be left at your local depot and we will need to contact you to find out when to re-deliver.
If you are out a second time the goods will be returned to us. Unfortunately, if we have to re-send the goods via the courier, we will have to charge you again for postage as we will be charged again. We may also be charged to have the goods stored at your local depot or returned to us. We would have to pass this cost on to you. Orders can be picked up from the local depot if you miss the second delivery.

What happens if my item is damaged?

By signing for your goods you are agreeing that they have arrived intact and undamaged. You must, however, notify us of any damage by 2pm the next day so we can claim from the courier and get them to pay for the replacement. We require you to take a picture of the damaged item and packaging and email it to us. We will usually arrange for the damaged item to be collected from you and returned to us at which point we can send a replacement.

What happens if my item is delayed?

If you pay for an Express 2 day service but receive your item within the standard delivery time-frame of 4 days, we will refund the difference between the Express and Standard delivery charge (usually £2) to you - unless the delay is due to circumstances beyond our control E.g. Parcel mis-sort, bad weather, strike action, Christmas delivery delays, incorrect postcode or incomplete address given etc.

What happens if my item is lost?

Lost Royal Mail/International Standard: If an item posted by Royal Mail (not courier) does not arrive we will need to wait 15 working days (from the due date of delivery) for UK 1st class parcels, 20 working days (from the due date of delivery) for European parcels and 25 working days (from the due date of delivery) for Rest of the World before Royal Mail agree it is lost and not simply delayed. We will then instigate a claim with Royal Mail. Part of the process may involve Royal Mail contacting you to confirm that you have not received the parcel. We can only refund you once our claim with Royal Mail has been settled. (From years of experience, the parcels usually turn up within the time-frame). Airmail is not a trackable service but you can pay £6 extra per parcel for Tracked and Signed which is trackable.

Courier items: Courier parcels rarely go missing as it is a fully tracked service! On the one occasion that something did go missing we put a stop to the delivery of that consignment and sent a replacement within 2 days.

If you give us an incorrect address/postcode or missing parts to an address and the parcel is delayed or goes missing, Everlasting Castings will not be held responsible. The alphabetical letters in a postcode must be in uppercase as this is the format required by all of our couriers. We have our sender address on every parcel so a parcel is likely to be returned to us rather than disappear! Please ensure that if the Delivery Address is different to the invoice/registered bank card address that you actually fill in the Delivery address boxes at checkout.
